Pork Recall: Over 10,000 Pounds of Products Have Been Recalled Across the United States
December 25, 2024
A pork recall has been issued across the United States, with more than 10,000 pounds of products affected.
Allrecipes is reporting that the two distinct recalls for raw and prepared pork products sold in four U.S. states have been announced by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The initial recall affected customers in Oklahoma who bought ready-to-eat bologna products under Ralph’s Circle R brand. Retailers and eateries selling Old World Italian Sausage in Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania are affected by the second pork recall.
Ralph’s Packing Company has recalled 3,132 pounds of its ready-to-eat bologna and pork products in Oklahoma because the packaging does not mention a milk allergy, even though the meat may contain milk. FSIS worries that some refrigerators or freezers may still contain the recalled meat: Ralph’s Circle R brand Garlic Bologna and Garlic Bologna with Jalapeños. The products have been in production since September 2022.
Meanwhile, 7,485 pounds of products made by Baltimore-based Impero Foods & Meats, Inc. are also affected by the pork recall because they were not subject to government inspection.
A business manufacturing goods under a suspended grant of inspection was reported to FSIS. The recall was started after FSIS inspected the retailer and found that the Old-World Italian Sausage links and ropes made by Impero Food & Meats Inc. had not been inspected by FSIS.
According to the USDA, consumers should not eat “Old World Sausage” purchased under an unknown brand from a deli counter between Oct. 2, 2024, and Dec. 19, 2024. Rather, they should discard it or send it back to the store for a complete refund.
Pork Recall: The Latest Consumer Recall
The pork recall is the latest consumer recall of 2024. Recently, Costco’s egg recall was issued the highest risk level by the FDA.
There is a “reasonable” chance that consuming hundreds of thousands of Costco eggs that were recalled last month could result in major health problems or even death from salmonella contamination.
The FDA assigned a Category 1 risk rating to the Handsome Brook Farms eggs offered at Costco in the Southeast United States.
Category 1 recalls occur when “there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death,” according to the FDA’s website.
Handsome Brook Farms started the recall after discovering that eggs “not intended for retail distribution were instead packaged and distributed in retail packaging.”
“To prevent recurrence, additional supply chain controls and retraining are being implemented,” the company said.
