Taco Bell Has Quietly Discontinued These 5 Fan-Favorite Items
December 25, 2024
Taco Bell has introduced plenty of new (and old!) items to its nationwide menu. However, it has also quietly discontinued five fan favorites. Let’s take a look at what customers will no longer be able to enjoy.
Taco Bell Discontinued These Fan Favorites
Allrecipes is reporting that Taco Bell discontinued the following fan favorites:
- Chipotle Ranch Grilled Chicken Burrito: The Chipotle Ranch Grilled Chicken Burrito was, for many fans, the most notable of the five dishes that have been pulled from the menu. Several Change.org petitions calling for the fast-food chain to restore it were sparked by the loss.
- Beefy Melt Burrito: The basic tortilla included seasoned ground beef, Fiesta Strips, seasoned rice, sour cream, a three-cheese blend, and nacho cheese sauce. The Cheesy Double Beef Burrito is still available, even if it may no longer be accessible in its original form.
- Fiesta Veggie Burrito: Black beans, seasoned rice, Fiesta Strips, sour cream, a three-cheese blend, tomatoes, guacamole, and a creamy chipotle sauce were all included in the Fiesta Veggie Burrito. “We urge Taco Bell not only as customers but also as advocates for accessible plant-based dining options in mainstream establishments,” read a Change.org petition to bring the item back. “Please bring back our beloved Fiesta Veggie Burrito or introduce another equally satisfying vegetarian burrito option.”
- Chicken Chipotle Melt: The now-defunct Chicken Chipotle Melt, a flour tortilla stuffed with grilled chicken and cheddar cheese, also had Chipotle sauce as its focal point. The melt was only $1 when it first came out and has a sizable fan base.
- The $5 Classic Combo: For $5, this combo included a drink, a specialty item (such as the Black Bean Chalupa, Black Bean Crunchwrap Supreme, or Cheese Quesadilla), a smaller Classic Item (like the Bean Burrito, Spicy Potato Soft Taco, or the Cheesy Bean and Rice Burrito), and a choice of side dish or dessert.
The Fast-Food Restaurant Brought Back Other Favorites
Back in November, Taco Bell introduced a bunch of new items to its menu.
The so-called “Decades Menu,” which includes some of the best-selling dishes from previous years, includes some of the most well-liked menu items that have made a brief comeback. The popular Decades Menu is selling the 1960s Tostada, 1970s Green Sauce Burrito, 1980s Meximelt, and 1990s Gordita Supreme for less than $3 nationwide for a short period of time.
The Caramel Apple Empanada from the 2000s completed the retro lineup.
“Everyone remembers the moment they fell in love with Taco Bell and that one special menu item that brings you right back,” Taco Bell’s chief marketing officer, Taylor Montgomery, said in the announcement of the Decades Menu. He also said that the menu and “the merch we’re creating are an ode to our rich history and a love letter to our fans, whether they’ve been rolling through our drive-thru for decades or are just about to discover their first Caramel Apple Empanada.”
A new menu item, Chicken Al Pastor Street Chalupas, debuted in Minneapolis on Oct. 31 and is now available to select fans. This limited-edition dish, which comes in two cheesy, street-sized shells that resemble the Quesalupa, features Cantina Slow-Roasted Chicken marinated in a savory blend of pineapple and chilies. With its robust aromas and crunchy cilantro and onion toppings, this new product, which retails for $4.99, is intended to captivate customers.
Inspired by the traditional Mexican al pastor dish, the Chicken Al Pastor Street Chalupas pay homage to the rich culinary heritage that combines Middle Eastern and Mexican flavors. This invention is the foundation of Taco Bell’s recent success with its Cantina Chicken menu and Cheesy Street Chalupas, indicating the company’s ongoing commitment to adding delicious Mexican-inspired dishes to its menu.
