Rolex Hikes Watch Prices in Response to Gold Surge

January 3, 2025

Rolex is probably the most recognizable brand in the luxury watch space, with the mention of its name in popular culture artifacts like books, movies, and television shows conjuring an image of prestige, exclusivity, and wealth.

And while Rolex typically raises prices for its extensive product line each year on Jan. 1, as Bloomberg indicated, this year has seen some watches soar in price compared to their counterparts.

The primary distinction? The watches seeing the heftiest price hikes are crafted from gold, a precious metal whose price has skyrocketed over the past year.

Gold Driving Rolex Price Increases, Rolesor Models Also Affected

According to a detailed Monochrome analysis, a massive gulf exists in terms of Rolex price increases concerning its steel and platinum lines (which ticked upward in retail price by about 1% to 1.5%) and its gold offerings (which soared by about 11% in cost year-over-year).

Rolex’s Rolesor models — Rolesor being a term used to denote a watch made from both steel and gold — also saw a massive price jump of around 8% YoY.

As Monochrome pointed out, the price of platinum remained largely steady throughout 2024, with the price of a troy ounce falling to $919 after kicking off 2024 at $1,007.

The same cannot be said of gold, however. The yellow metal was listed at $2,076 per troy ounce at the beginning of January 2024, and by year’s end, that price had risen to $2,640 — an increase of 27%, per Monochrome.

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona in Gold Sees Massive 18.5% Price Jump

While many Rolex models in gold or Rolesor did see significant price elevation — the Sky-Dweller, Yacht-Master, and Deepsea gold versions all trending up by about 11% — the brand’s chronograph, the Cosmograph Daytona in gold, saw an even bigger change to its sticker price.

Whether presented in white or yellow gold, Rolex’s Cosmograph Daytona saw an 18.5% (or 18.6% for the yellow gold bracelet iteration) price increase. That model now ranges from between $38,500 to $53,400.
