Costco Recalls Cold and Flu Meds Amid Contamination Fears
January 6, 2025
Cold and flu medication sold at Costco under its Kirkland Signature brand has been recalled. The retail giant’s “Severe Cold and Flu Plus Congestion” product sold between Oct. 30, 2024, and Nov. 30, 2024, may be tainted with a foreign substance.
LNK, a New York-based company that private labels over-the-counter medications, initiated the recall earlier this month “out of an abundance of caution.” While the nature of the contamination is unclear, the cold and flu product was “accidentally” released to U.S. Costco stores in the Midwest and Southeast.
Affected packages of the cold and flu medication have the item number 1729556 and lot code P140082. Anyone in possession of the medication should immediately stop using it and return the product to a local Costco for a full refund.
Purchasers who have experienced any illness or injury after taking the congestion medication are encouraged to contact a health provider as soon as possible. Questions about the cold and flu product can be directed to 800-426-9391 or complaints-inquiries@lnkintl.com.

Costco Recalls
Costco has been the subject of various recalls over the last few months. From eggs to butter, the retailer has been warning customers about several of its Kirkland Signature brand products.
On Nov. 27, 2024, Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture Raised eggs were recalled for possible salmonella contamination. Produced by Handsome Brook Farms, approximately 10,800 cartons of 24-count eggs were pulled off shelves in 25 Costco stores.
The Costco egg recall was escalated to a Category 1 risk level by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) a month later. Even though no illnesses were reported, a Category 1 level indicates the recalled product could lead to serious health issues or even death.
Also in November, the retailer recalled a select batch of Butter Croissants due to possible foreign material in the salt used in the bakery item. The potentially dangerous substance was not named, but Costco warned consumers that Butter Croissants purchased nationwide with best-by dates between Sept. 8, 2024, and Nov. 10, 2024, should not be eaten.
In an October 2024 recall, Costco removed nearly 80,000 pounds of butter due to a missing ingredient on the label. Classified as a Category 2 level recall, the FDA noted that two butter products, Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter and Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter, “may be missing the Contains Milk statement.”
