Chick-fil-A Plans Expansion Into British Columbia. Here Are the Details
January 28, 2025
Chick-fil-A is one of the most popular fast-food restaurants in the United States. Now, however, the chicken-centered chain is taking its talents (and its chicken) to a new place in the Great White North. Here’s what we know about this latest expansion.
Chick-fil-A Goes to British Columbia
According to Nation’s Restaurant News, the company intends to open five to seven restaurants in the Canadian province of British Columbia by 2030. The announcement comes after the brand’s debut in Alberta last year, including outlets in Calgary and Edmonton.
The fast-food giant previously announced plans to open up to 20 restaurants in Alberta by 2030, with eight expected this year. The province marked the chain’s first venture outside of Ontario, where it made its Canadian debut in 2019. There are now 22 Chick-fil-A restaurants open in Canada.
“We are excited about the opportunity to bring an authentic Chick-fil-A experience to guests in British Columbia, where local Chick-fil-A owner-operators will create hundreds of new jobs, and invest in their teams and local communities,” director of restaurant development in Canada, Jessica Sisk Roehle, said in a press release. “The incredible reception Chick-fil-A received when we expanded into Alberta this past year really energized us as we planned our next steps in Canada. British Columbia has a number of vibrant, thriving communities across the province that makes it such a great place for us to grow.”
Chick-fil-A did not say which cities in British Columbia it was targeting, but the province has numerous mid-to-large markets, including Vancouver, Kelowna, Abbotsford, Burnaby, Surrey, Victoria, and Richmond.
The Fast-Food Giant Previously Announced an Asia and UK Expansion
The brand’s expansion into British Columbia is just its latest foray into the international market. In October 2024, a press release revealed that the company intends to open five eateries in the United Kingdom within two years. These will serve as the restaurant’s first sites outside North America, with new outlets in Belfast, Leeds, Liverpool, and London. Over the next decade, Chick-fil-A plans to invest more than $100 million in the United Kingdom.
“Serving communities is at the heart of everything we do, and we look forward to bringing Chick-fil-A’s delicious food and signature hospitality to Belfast, Leeds, Liverpool and London, and continuing our long-term investment in the U.K.,” said Anita Costello, chief international officer, in a statement accompanying the press release. “From job creation to supporting local causes, we are excited about the positive impact our first restaurants will have in the communities they serve.”
Later that same month, Chick-fil-A, Inc. announced plans to expand into Asia, launching its first location in Singapore in late 2025. This program is part of a $75 million commitment over the next decade to develop the brand in the region.
The decision follows a successful pop-up event in June 2024, where over 1,000 people tried the classic Original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich. This event not only presented the brand to the local community but also earned S$30,000 for Community Chest, a nonprofit organization affiliated with the National Council of Social Services.
“We are thrilled to introduce Chick-fil-A to Singapore, bringing new jobs and opportunities as we support the local community. Serving our Guests with high quality food and signature hospitality remains our top priority as we do so,” said Hugh Park, head of Asia Pacific operations at Chick-fil-A (Asia) Pte Ltd., in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Our unique approach, with locally owned and operated restaurants, will also allow us to better connect with people in Singapore as we provide an authentic Chick-fil-A experience.”
Costello stressed Singapore’s unique position as a culinary hotspot and gateway to Asia, citing the brand’s positive reception from locals.
