Moe’s Southwest Grill Brings Back Shredded Beef Birria Tacos, Bowls, & More. Here Are the Details

February 4, 2025

Moe’s Southwest Grill knows what the people want, and the Tex-Mex-inspired fast-food restaurant delivers it. The popular beef birria is back as of Feb. 4, and fans can get it in tacos, bowls, quesadillas, and more. Let’s look at what we know about this limited-time-only item.

Moe’s Southwest Grill Is Bringing Birria Back

In a press release, Moe’s Southwest Grill announced that it is reviving its most successful limited-time offer to date: shredded beef birria. Starting Feb. 4, fans across the country can again enjoy the rich, savory flavors of this Mexican-inspired dish — but with an exciting new addition: the Quesabirria Taco.

Birria, a slow-cooked Mexican stew typically made with beef or goat, has seen a meteoric rise in popularity over the past few years. Originating from Jalisco, Mexico, birria was traditionally served as a celebratory dish but has since evolved into a street food sensation across the U.S.

Moe’s first introduced shredded beef birria as a limited-time protein offering, and the response was overwhelming. The dish quickly became the brand’s most successful LTO ever, demonstrating the growing demand for bold, authentic flavors in the fast-casual sector. The shredded beef birria has now returned to Moe’s menu this winter, once again offering customers a hearty and flavorful option ideal for the colder months.

However, this time, Moe’s Southwest Grill is taking things further with its new Quesabirria Taco. This creation features the juicy shredded beef birria inside a soft tortilla crusted with Oaxaca cheese, blending the best of classic birria with the indulgence of a grilled cheese taco.

Customers can add shredded beef birria to any Moe’s entrée for an additional cost, giving fans the flexibility to enjoy the protein in bowls, burritos, nachos, and more. But for those who want the full birria experience, the Quesabirria Taco is a must-try.

Beyond product appeal, the brand is leveraging customer loyalty to drive traffic. Moe Rewards members can enjoy one free Quesabirria Taco by purchasing a regular menu item at participating locations from Feb. 4 to Feb. 23, 2025.

Cheez-It Tacos?

Last September, Moe’s Southwest Grill proved that it was happy to follow trends to make its customers happy when it jumped on the Cheez-It craze.

With the addition of popular Cheez-It crackers to its various free and fresh ingredients, Moe’s Southwest Grill expanded its robust flavors and endless customizing options. For a limited time, customers could enjoy their favorite Moe’s Entrée with free Cheez-It Original Crackers while supplies lasted.

“We pride ourselves in feeding the rebel spirit in each of our guests by infusing creative offerings to our menu so they can satisfy their cravings,” said Joe Artime, VP of marketing at Moe’s Southwest Grill, in a statement accompanying the press release. “Cheez-It crackers bring a craveable, cheesy crunch when added to our menu offerings. We can’t wait to see how fans customize their order with this fan-favorite snack.”

“Cheez-It is always looking for new ways to delight our fans’ obsession with cheese and appetite for excitement. We’re thrilled to partner with Moe’s for this ultimate cheesy menu takeover as part of its latest culinary venture. Adding the iconic Cheez-It cracker made with 100% real cheese to your favorite Burrito, Bowl or Queso is a dream come true for snack lovers who crave the delicious taste outside of the box,” added Michelle Barnes, commercial strategy director of Kellanova Away From Home, in the same press release.

Moe’s Southwest Grill appeared to be competing with longtime rival Taco Bell, which also revived the Big Cheez-It Menu for a limited period.
