FDA Issues Donut Recall: 2 Million Baked Goods With Potential for Listeria

February 10, 2025

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a baked goods recall for 60 products, including various donuts, due to potential listeria contamination concerns.

Recalled Donuts May Be Contaminated With Listeria

FGF Brands voluntarily recalled 60 donut products, affecting more than 2 million pastries sold across the country. According to a report from the FDA, the donut products, distributed in the United States and Canada, were recalled due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recalled products include a variety of filled and flavored donuts and cinnamon sticks, and they were produced before Dec. 13, 2024. All the recall numbers and product descriptions are listed on the report.

FGF Brands initiated the recall on Jan. 7, but it was recently upgraded to Class II. According to the FDA’s website, a Class II recall is defined as “a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

“The voluntary recall was completed over a month ago (early January), and does not implicate anything that is currently, or was recently on the market,” an FGF spokesperson told TODAY. “All donuts are completely safe to eat. The voluntary recall was a precautionary measure based on non-product-related findings at one of our donut facilities in the U.S. No donuts or food contact surfaces ever tested positive for listeria.”

Customers can reach FGF Brands via telephone at 905-761-3333 or email at info@fgfbrands.com, according to its website.

What Are The Warning Signs of Listeria?

According to the CDC, Listeria can cause two kinds of illnesses. One type is invasive, while the other is intestinal illness.

Invasive illnesses are treated with a course of antibiotics, and recovery from an intestinal illness can be completed without any medical intervention.

“Listeria infection can be especially harmful to some people, including pregnant women, newborns, adults aged 65 or older, and people with weakened immune systems. Other people can be infected with Listeria, but they rarely become seriously ill,” the site reports.

Listeria is usually diagnosed when a laboratory test reveals the bacteria from a sample of an ill person’s body fluid or tissue. Treatment varies based on the kind of illness and its severity.
