MadeGood Granola Bar Recall Reclassified as Class II by FDA

February 18, 2025

A product recall of MadeGood Granola Bars has been reclassified as Class II by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Per the FDA, a Class II classification is given if a product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

The company said in a December statement that there was a potential for metal contamination in the bars, and though there were no reports of injury, it pulled the products “out of an abundance of caution and commitment to the well-being of our beloved customers.” It also stated at the time that it would offer full refunds to customers who purchased the affected products.

“We are voluntarily recalling certain MadeGood granola bars as a precautionary measure due to a potential safety hazard,” MadeGood said. “There is a very small risk that some of our granola bar products made between January and November 2024 may contain a piece of metal.”

The company has already addressed the source of the issue. A full list of affected products with UPCs and product names was made available in the statement.

Further Information About the MadeGood Granola Bar Recall

MadeGood explained the recall on its product page. It revealed that the pieces of metal that could be found within its products were small, flat, brush bristles.

The company claims it is highly unlikely to be present in its products. The company says it received “seven complaints out of the hundreds of millions of bars sold, and no injuries have been reported. We are recalling these products as a precautionary measure because we believe transparency and the safety of our consumers are paramount.” The company also assured customers that if they have already consumed the recalled product, they should not worry.

MadeGood’s initial recall did not indicate which retailers may have sold the recalled products. MadeGood’s products can currently be purchased at stores including Target, Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Whole Foods or online at Amazon and MadeGood’s official site.
