Celebrity Cruises Stops Travel to Haiti Following Level 4 Travel Advisory

March 29, 2025

Celebrity Cruises is no longer stopping in the Haitian city of Labadee following an updated travel advisory issued by the United States government.

According to The Travel, the popular cruise line no longer travels to the private island resort just off the coast of the Caribbean country. This itinerary change was confirmed by The Travel Scouts, who noted, “More than ten stops have been canceled on the Celebrity APEX and Beyond cruise ships. The ships will visit Grand Turk or the Cayman Islands instead.”

Indeed, a search on the Celebrity Cruises website for “Haiti cruises” yielded no results. Prior to that, per the outlet, the company released a statement about the itinerary changes that read, “While we don’t currently sail to Labadee, Haiti, you can discover the beauty of the Caribbean on one of our luxury Caribbean cruises.”

According to the U.S. Department of State, Haiti has been labeled with a Level 4 travel advisory, which means “do not travel.” The State Department has given the country this rating due to “kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and limited health care.”

“Do not cross the border by land between Haiti and the Dominican Republic due to the threat of kidnapping and violence,” noted the Department. “These dangers are present on roads from major Haitian cities to the border. The U.S. embassy cannot help you enter the Dominican Republic by air, land, or sea.  U.S. citizens who cross into the Dominican Republic at an unofficial crossing may face high immigration fines if they try to leave. The U.S. Coast Guard has concerns about security in the ports of Haiti. Until those are addressed, the Coast Guard advises mariners and passengers traveling through the ports of Haiti to exercise caution.”

Celebrity Cruises Previously Unveiled ‘Project Nirvana’

In November of 2024, Celebrity Cruises announced it will raise the stakes in the cruise ship industry by launching what it’s calling “Project Nirvana.

According to Travel Weekly, the brand president, Laura Hodges Bethge, told CruiseWorld attendees that Celebrity Cruises is presently in the “dreaming stage” of creating its next generation of ships.

The project, which the business has named Project Nirvana, is expected to begin by 2030, though the precise date has not yet been set.

“For those who have been doing this for a long time, you know you go from the dreaming stage to the receiving stage in five-ish years,” Bethge told the attendees. “We’re excited about what’s next for the brand.”
