Carnival Cruise Line Brings ‘Funternship’ Program for High School Students to 5 Cities
April 6, 2025
Carnival Cruise Line is bringing back a unique employment experience for would-be cruise workers: the “Funternship” program, which Carnival is launching in five cities.
Per a press release announcement, the initiative will give high school students aged 17 and up six weeks of paid, hands-on experience with Carnival Cruise terminal operations. The students will work alongside Carnival’s port services team members, who manage the cruise terminals where passengers board Carnival Cruise Line ships.
Interns will gain insight into Carnival’s homeport operations and will be trained and mentored by Carnival team members. In addition to an hourly wage, interns will be provided with unique experiences, such as a cruise ship tour and lunch and learn sessions to help them advance in their careers.
“This will be more than just a unique, fun summer job. It will be an opportunity for young people to develop professional skills, build confidence and leadership abilities and gain experience in a part of the travel industry that directly impacts their community’s economy,” said David Candib, vice president of Port Operations for Carnival Cruise Line, in a statement accompanying the press release. “We believe this is another great way to invest in the communities we call home, as well as the future of our dynamic and growing cruise industry.”
The Funternship is available in Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York; Jacksonville and Tampa, Florida; and Norfolk, Virginia.
Carnival Cruise Line Previously Canceled Jetline Bookings
Meanwhile, Carnival Cruise Line passengers were shocked when the company abruptly canceled Jetline bookings with no warning or backup plan.
The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has confirmed that Jetline Travel Limited has ceased operations as an ATOL holder.
It comes after Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, and Cunard canceled certain pending reservations made through Jetline for alleged “breach of contract,” leaving cruise customers in the dark. All remaining reservations, including those for P&O Cruises, have been converted to direct reservations.
The CAA shared a statement released on March 6: “If you are currently overseas and you hold a scheduled flight e-ticket, the flight remains valid for the return journey. You are advised to check-in with the airline as per the existing flight ticket. The CAA is speaking to the service providers for the other elements of your trip to ensure these continue as planned.”
