Costco Pulls Customer Favorite From Store Shelves

April 7, 2025

Costco reportedly pulled a customer favorite product from store shelves, leaving some shoppers to question why this wallet-friendly alternative is no longer available.

Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand Soy Milk was a budget-friendly, non-dairy alternative available on big-box store shelves for many years. In March, a social media user claimed on Reddit that Costco told them in an email that Kirkland Signature soy milk “was discontinued due to slow sales.”

The Redditor shared the retailer’s response to their query. It read, “Thank you for your feedback regarding the KS Soy Milk. Unfortunately, the KS Soy Milk was discontinued due to slow sales. However, we plan on bringing in a branded Soy Milk as an item rotation throughout the year. The next rotation is due to arrive in August.”

A different Reddit user shared a separate answer from the retailer. It read, “Thank you for reaching out regarding Kirkland Signature Organic Soy Beverage. Unfortunately, our private label buying team has decided to discontinue the item due to slow sales. As a result, we will be bringing in a branded replacement later this Spring. This will be an unsweetened soy beverage under the Your Good Foods brand, as we saw positive results with an item we tested last Fall, and there’s been multiple member requests to remove the added sugar.”

Multiple soy drink fans said the product was a great milk alternative for people who are lactose intolerant. One Reddit user responded, “My husband LOVES this soy milk and we have been looking for it the last few trips! Very sad.”

“That’s terrible, I am in shambles right now. The price cannot be beat and I mix it with my protein shake daily,” a second Redditor penned.

A third shared their frustration: “Costco has been rotating out a lot of their plant-based options. It’s fracking frustrating.”

Trader Joe’s Sells a Comparable Alternative, Which May Even Be Better Than Costco’s

On Reddit, Costco customers shared details of where they turned for a comparable alternative to the Kirkland Signature Soy Milk. They appear to have found one at Trader Joe’s.

Those who regularly purchased the product have found Trader Joe’s Organic Unsweetened Soy Beverage to be the next best thing, noting that it’s a little bit more expensive but has a more simplified ingredient list. It contains organic soybeans and water. Both products have a caloric count of 100 for 1 cup of the non-dairy product.

The Trader Joe’s product is dairy-free, gluten-free, organic, vegan, and kosher. The Kirkland brand has an ingredient list that includes organic soy milk (filtered water, whole organic soybeans), organic sugar, tricalcium phosphate, sea salt, carrageenan, and added vitamins.
