Norwegian Cruise Line Unveils Its Newest Ship, the Aqua, in Miami With Eric Stonestreet Christening the Vessel
April 19, 2025
Norwegian Cruise Line has unveiled its newest ship, the Aqua, in Miami, Florida, and invited award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet along for the ride.
Cruise & Ferry said the official unveiling was on April 13, and Stonestreet was the ship’s godfather. The 3,571-guest Norwegian Aqua, which Fincantieri constructed at its Marghera, Italy, yard, is NCL’s first Prima Plus-class ship. It features many experiences and innovations first offered on Prima-class ships.
In addition, Norwegian Cruise Line talked about the new innovations on this ship, including the company’s “most expansive” Ocean Boulevard, an expanded adults-only Vibe Beach Club, a three-story hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide, a Glow Court sports complex with an interactive LED floor, improved lodging, and the brand’s first three-bedroom Duplex Haven Suites. Additionally, the ship has several brand-new dining options.
“As a new cruiser who has a deep passion for travel, it is absolutely spectacular to see the amazing features and experiences that travellers and their families can enjoy aboard Norwegian Aqua, including the world’s first hybrid roller coaster and waterslide, the Aqua Slidecoaster!” Stonestreet said to the outlet. “The team at Norwegian Cruise Line, onboard and ashore, are the very best of the best, and I am honored to serve as the godfather of the beautiful Norwegian Aqua.”
Stonestreet is best known for his role as Cameron Tucker on the hit comedy show, “Modern Family.”
Norwegian Cruise Line Previously Withdrew a Ship From the Fleet
As NCL is adding a new ship to the lineup, it is also withdrawing a ship from the fleet.
Late last month, it was reported that the Seven Seas Navigator will be decommissioned from service after its last voyage in late 2026. This departure is the first ship retirement since the Paul Gauguin, a ship based in Tahiti, was removed from service in 2010.
Norwegian Cruise Line retired the Norwegian Majesty before retiring the Gaugin, which was transferred to Louis Cruises in 2009.
In October 2026, the Seven Seas Navigator will leave Regent’s fleet to join Crescent Seas, a fledgling company that intends to build a high-end residential cruise line.
First launched in 1999, the 490-guest ship is among the oldest in Norwegian Cruise Line’s fleet. The hull of a Russian research vessel was used to build it.
