DoorDash Announces 2 Significant Multi-Billion-Dollar Acquisitions in a Single Day

May 6, 2025

DoorDash is swallowing up booking platform SevenRooms in a $1.2 billion acquisition deal. SevenRooms, which helps restaurants and hotels maintain booking information, will be under the delivery company’s umbrella before the end of the year.

With SevenRooms, DoorDash can add a reservation platform similar to OpenTable. The company tested the idea three years ago when it partnered with SevenRooms to offer restaurant reservation services in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

“With SevenRooms, we’re excited to give local businesses around the globe new ways to bring more guests in the door, build and grow direct relationships with their customers, access best-in-class CRM, and drive profitability through smarter marketing,” said Parisa Sadrzadeh, vice president of strategy and operations at the delivery firm, in a press release.

In yet another acquisition, DoorDash is also in the process of buying British food delivery service Deliveroo. The takeover deal, worth $3.9 billion, is part of the company’s larger strategy to expand globally.

The purchase of Deliveroo will open up about 40 more countries for DoorDash, which already dominates the food-delivery space. The Deliveroo deal should also close before 2025 is over.

“We believe both SevenRooms and Deliveroo will expand our ability to build world class services that increase our potential to grow local commerce and support our financial goals,” stated DoorDash, per CNBC.

DoorDash Continues To Dominate Same-Day Delivery

In the first quarter of 2025, DoorDash received 732 million customer orders, an 18% jump compared to the same period last year. Revenue was $3.03 billion, a 21% surge. Net income for Q1 was $193 million versus a net loss of $23 million for Q1 2024.

Grocery delivery demand was up in the quarter. The company noted an increase in the average spend per customer as well as a rise in the average spend for perishable items.

With “consistent” engagement and healthy consumer demand, DoorDash predicts order value in the $23.3 billion to $23.7 billion range for the current quarter. Net earnings will likely hit between $600 million and $650 million.

DoorDash has also experimented beyond the hot food and grocery delivery services market. Last year, it teamed up with Sally Beauty and M·A·C Cosmetics. Through the app, customers could order beauty products and have them conveniently delivered the same day.
