Kroger’s Last Hiring Blitz Was in 2022

In April 2022, Kroger embarked on a huge hiring blitz, looking to fill 23,000 roles across its stores. These retailers include Baker’s, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Foods Co, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Gerbes, Jay C Food Store, King Soopers, Kroger, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pay-Less Super Markets, Pick’n Save, QFC, Ralphs, Ruler, and Smith’s Food and Drug. The family of supermarkets currently serves nearly 11 million customers a day with more than 27,000 stores in 35 states and the District of Columbia.

The company has become a mainstay in the communities it serves by offering fresh food, pharmacy services, and valuable coupon savings to all customers. Therefore, by hiring from these same communities, it also enhances the quality of life for residents by creating jobs, building relationships, and giving back in meaningful ways that go beyond the aisles.

Kroger was created in 1883 when Barney Kroger invested his life savings of $372 to open a grocery store at 66 Pearl St. in Cincinnati, Ohio. He ran his business via the motto: “Be particular. Never sell anything you would not want yourself.”

By 1901, the supermarket became the first grocer in the country to establish its own bakeries, followed by the introduction of its own meat department. It was also an innovator in private label marketing, beginning with selling Barney Kroger’s mother’s homemade saukerkraut to customers. Currently, the retailer operates 35 food manufacturing facilities.

Kroger’s journey of growth continues to build on bringing trusted local brands together under one family. One hundred years after the store’s initial founding, in 1983, it merged with Dillon Companies Inc., which welcomed Dillon’s, King Soopers, Fry’s, City Market, and Gerbes into the Kroger family.

In 1999, the supermarket merged with Fred Meyer, Inc., adding Smith’s, Ralphs, Food 4 Less, and QFC to its banner of supermarkets. Additionally, that same year, Kroger strengthened its presence by joining forces with JayC, Owen’s Market, and Pay Less.

Subsequently, Baker’s joined the Kroger family of supermarkets in 2001, Harris Teeter in 2014, and Roundy’s in 2015 with its family of stores, including Pick ’n Save, Metro Market, and Mariano’s.

The company most recently featured author and model Chrissy Teigen in a social media campaign, where she revealed she was a “groceryhead.” In the clips, Teigen breaks down her favorite products and reveals some grocery-loving truths. She initially partnered with the supermarket chain in 2023, selling her Cravings line of baking mixes.
