AI Ads Will Dominate Super Bowl 2025

January 29, 2025

Super Bowl 2025 is almost here, and so are the ads. Yet, this year, artificial intelligence will likely dominate.

Generally, Super Bowl ads mirror popular American trends and tastes. Over the years, game watchers were inundated with cryptocurrency and sports-betting app ads. After COVID lockdowns were lifted, travel and hospitality ruled.

For the Big Game on Feb. 9, one can imagine AI will be the focus. While not confirmed, speculation abounds about Google, Microsoft, or AI-focused firms like OpenAI spending big money to get in front of viewers.

“AI is coming. If it’s not already here in almost every business, it will be coming like a freight train,” Mark Evans, executive VP of ad sales for Fox Sports, told The Hollywood Reporter. “So you will see some more AI focused creative, which I think intuitively would be expected.”

In addition to ads for AI, Super Bowl LIX will also likely have the usual advertisers. Ads for beer, snack food, cars, and financial services will probably be among the mix fans will sit through. According to Evans, pharmaceutical companies will show up strong as well.

However, some companies are potentially missing the game this year. There will likely be fewer ads from streaming services and fewer trailers for new movies.

“The only category, quite frankly, that is down year-over-year, is — and we lump these two together — movie studios and streamers,” Evans said. “And it’s not like they’re not represented, they just won’t be represented as much as they’ve been historically.”

After the controversy associated with the California wildfires, insurer State Farm abandoned its ad spot.

Securing the broadcast rights for Super Bowl 2025, Fox reportedly sold all its ad spots, and the TV network has not disclosed what companies bought up the airtime. In 2024, some advertisers purportedly paid a record $7 million for an ad, and this year, the price could be higher. According to an unnamed insider, prices for over 10 of Fox’s 30-second spots went for $8 million.

The amount spent on Super Bowl ads is a testament to the power of getting in front of millions of potential customers and raising awareness for a company’s message. For the corporations that can afford it, Super Bowl ads are worth the investment, at least in the short term. Not only will Super Bowl 2025 be broadcast on Fox, but fans can watch the Chiefs versus Eagles game for free on the network’s ad-supported Tubi streaming service.
