ALDI Is Cutting Prices on More Than 250 Items To Combat Inflation

May 10, 2024

ALDI has announced that it is slashing prices on more than 250 items in an effort to help inflation-weary customers avoid what they’re calling “sticker shock at the checkout.”

According to an official press release, seasonal products will be the first to get the price cut, and the lower prices will remain in effect through Labor Day. These seasonal products include BBQ items and travel-ready snacks. Other products, such as sirloin steak and chicken breast, will remain at a lower price only until July 10.

These efforts, said ALDI U.S. president Dave Rinaldo, are to help the grocery store’s customers enjoy summer holidays with their family and friends without worrying about going into debt to keep everyone fed and happy.

“We don’t want food prices to hold people back from getting together with friends and family or spending time outdoors this season,” he said in a statement.

Some products have only been marginally reduced. For example, a French baguette now costs only $1.49, while its original price was $1.59 — a savings of just 10 cents. Other products, however, have reduced in price more significantly: a USDA Black Angus Sirloin Steak, originally priced at $8.49, is now $6.99, a savings of $1.50.

ALDI also said that it anticipates customers will experience more than $100 million in savings thanks to these cost-cutting efforts.

In recent months, the company has experienced huge growth in the United States, especially after its successful acquisition of Southeastern Grocers, which includes Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket.

This summer, ALDI will initiate the conversion process. Later in the year, approximately 50 stores are anticipated to commence the changeover.

The supermarket chain also plans to increase its footprint in the Northeast and Midwest by adding around 330 new locations in these areas. ALDI intends to grow in the West as well, focusing on new locations like Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Southern California. This demonstrates its commitment to satisfying customers’ needs and improving communities around the country.

Having over 2,300 locations across 38 states, ALDI is one of the top retailers of groceries and consumables in North America.
