Alibaba fires manager after sexual assault charge

August 9, 2021

Alibaba has fired a manager accused of sexually assaulting a female employee after he admitted to engaging in “intimate acts” with the woman. Two other employees have resigned from the company for failing to promptly respond to the allegation. “An emergency response system was absent, and a severe misjudgment was made. In the event of a criminal investigation, they failed to suspend the relevant parties. This indicates a problem in our culture and capacity building. Given this systemic problem, the leadership must be held accountable,” said Judy Tong, chief people officer at Alibaba.
