Amazon Prime Day Is Back This July With Incredible Savings

May 2, 2025

Amazon Prime members could score deep discounts this July as the summer shopping event returns. But will there be a glitch in their purchases due to tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump?

The retailer’s 11th annual Prime Day is one of its biggest annual events. According to a press release, customers can look forward to major savings on some of the e-commerce site’s most popular brands, trending items, and top picks from their favorite creators.

Additionally, there are also exclusive deals just for Amazon members. For savvy shoppers looking to maximize their purchases, this is one of the most exciting events of the year.

During Prime Day, members typically enjoy sitewide discounts across more than 35 popular categories. These include deep savings on electronics, kitchen, beauty, apparel, and even back-to-school items, bundled with free delivery for members.

Plus, both major retailers and independent sellers alike typically see a boost in their bottom line during the worldwide shopping event. Amazon Prime Day 2024 was a huge win for independent sellers. Over 200 million items were purchased from these small businesses, making up more than 60% of all sales, Amazon reports. During the 2024 event, the retail site additionally hit a milestone when it came to overall delivery speed. The press release reports that over 9 billion items purchased had same-day or next-day delivery.

Besides the U.S., Prime Day 2025 will also return to Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and the UK. Also, for the first time, Prime members in Ireland can shop Prime Day deals on amazon.ie.

Shoppers who are interested in an Amazon Prime membership can sign up for a free trial before the sale day. This 30-day free trial allows them to take advantage of all the deals, including free shipping on many products, before committing to a membership. An Amazon Prime membership costs $14.99 per month or $139 annually.

Anyone can shop during Amazon Prime’s July event. However, some discounts will only be available exclusively for members. But will Trump’s tariffs curtail some retailers and shoppers from participating?

Worldwide Tariffs Could Put a Damper on Amazon Prime’s Shopping Event

Shoppers and retailers alike may experience glitches in the annual Amazon Prime shopping frenzy, per Reuters, due to President Donald Trump’s imposed tariffs. The news outlet reports that some third-party merchants who previously sold China-made goods may either reduce their amount of merchandise or opt out of selling during the event altogether.

In early 2025, the U.S. government introduced significant tariffs on imported goods, including a 145% tariff on products from China. “You know, it’s hard to tell what’s going to happen with tariffs right now,” Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said on the company’s quarterly earnings call, per Fortune. “It’s hard to tell where they’re going to settle and when they’re going to settle.”

Arun Sundaram, an analyst at CFRA Research, told Reuters that smaller retailers will feel the pinch from the imposed U.S. government tariffs. “Amazon will be fine, but I do feel for some of the third-party sellers — they’re the ones that are going to be hurt the most in this environment,” Sundaram said.

TheStreet estimates that nearly 70% of items sold on Amazon are made in China. Third-party sellers are independent retailers who offer goods for sale via an online retailer or marketplace, without being directly affiliated with that platform.

These sellers face an unpredictability around how long it will take to receive their inventory, coupled with how much it will affect their bottom line once tariffs are applied. Sellers have until May 23 to opt into participating in Prime Day.
