Amazon reported having an interest in acquiring Ocado

Ocado’s shares rose up to 47 percent after The Times of London reported that the online grocer and technology firm could be a potential target for acquisition by “technology heavyweights,” including Amazon.com. Ocado and Amazon declined to comment on the speculative report.

Ocado Amazon Together as an E-Commerce Grocer

The British brand, Ocado, has seen more turbulant years than successful ones, but the retailer trudges onward. Their specialty is their licensed grocery delivery technology that’s used to distribute groceries to consumers across the U.K.

This Ocado Amazon acquisition is not official currently, but does pose an interesting question as to the future of the online grocer.

Apparently, Amazon might not be the only tech player interested in Ocado, as other competitors have been weighing in on the possibility of bidding for the British brand.

Like many digital-based services, Ocado thrived during the pandemic, but has since experience financial difficulties in the aftermath.

Although there are no comments from either Ocado or Amazon, an acquisition might be the only way for the British company to survive.
