Amazon Will Sell Cars in 2024, Starting With Hyundai

November 16, 2023

In a groundbreaking move, Hyundai Motor Company and Amazon have announced a comprehensive strategic partnership aimed at revolutionizing the automotive industry.

Beginning in 2024, auto dealers will be able to sell vehicles in Amazon’s U.S. store for the first time. Hyundai will be the first brand available for customers. This new digital shopping experience will allow customers to search for vehicles based on their preferences, select their preferred car, and complete their purchase with their chosen payment and financing options, all within the trusted Amazon platform.

“Hyundai is a very innovative company that shares Amazon’s passion for trying to make customers’ lives better and easier every day. Our broad, strategic partnership should do just that, from changing the ease with which customers can buy vehicles online to making it simple to use Alexa in Hyundai vehicles for entertainment, shopping, smart home adjustments, and calendar checks to enabling Hyundai to transform their customer experiences and business operations by moving to AWS. We look forward to inventing together for many years.”

The partnership also includes a key digital transformation initiative, with Hyundai selecting Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its preferred cloud provider. Under this multiyear agreement, Hyundai will migrate its comprehensive on-premises applications to AWS, becoming a more data-driven organization. The migration will aim to optimize areas such as manufacturing, supply chain, security, disaster recovery, and connected vehicle development.

PCMag added that the car-buying experience will be just like buying any other Amazon product, except that users can choose to finance the vehicle. “You’ll be able to compare available selection at local dealerships and see transparent pricing,” Amazon VP Marty Mallick explained.

From 2025 onward, Hyundai’s next-generation vehicles will come equipped with Alexa Built-in, making them more interactive and responsive. Drivers will get a hands-free Alexa experience that allows them to play music, set reminders, check calendars, and even control their smart home devices from the road. These features aim to make the driving experience more connected and enjoyable, with certain Alexa functions available even when internet connectivity is intermittent.
