Answers Pet Food Recall Over Possible Salmonella, Listeria Contamination
September 26, 2024
The Food and Drug Administration has recalled a popular pet food brand due to possible Salmonella and Listeria contamination.
An FDA press release reveals that samples of two Answers Pet Food products made by Lystn LLC tested positive for Salmonella, a third product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes (L. mono), and a fourth product tested positive for both Salmonella and L. mono.
What Answers Pet Food Products Were Recalled?
The FDA reports that the products are in 4-pound frozen (half-gallon) cartons. The affected items include Answers Pet Food Raw Beef Detailed Formula for Dogs, Answers Pet Food Raw Beef Straight Formula for Dogs, and Answers Pet Food Straight Chicken Formula for Dogs. The food was tested and recalled after three pet owners reported that their dogs fell ill after eating the products.

A Best Used By Date (BUBD) sticker can identify products connected to the Answers Pet Food recall. This product does not use lot codes to differentiate between food varieties. The affected pet food consists of 4-pound (half-gallon) cartons of:
- Answers Pet Food Raw Beef Detailed Formula for Dogs: UPC/bar code number 856554002102, BUBD of May 6, 2026
- Answers Pet Food Raw Beef Straight Formula for Dogs: UPC/bar code number 856554002072, BUBD of Jan. 31, 2026
- Answers Pet Food Straight Chicken Formula for Dogs: UPC/bar code number 856554002065, BUBD of Jan. 2, 2026 and March 11, 2026
It is strongly suggested that anyone with the aforementioned pet foods stops feeding them to their pets and throws them away in a secure container.
Pet owners should know that not all pets are symptomatic when infected with Salmonella. Signs that your dog may be affected include vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), fever, loss of appetite, and decreased activity level. Contact a veterinarian if your dog has experienced any of these symptoms.
