Apple and Google offer proposal to fight unwanted tracking of Bluetooth devices
May 3, 2023
Bluetooth tracking devices were created to help people find lost keys, laptops, luggage and other important items. The devices have been misused in some instances, which has led Apple and Google to propose setting standards to fight unwanted tracking using AirTag, Chipolo, Pebblebee, Tile and other devices. “These new standards will minimize opportunities for abuse of this technology and decrease the burden on survivors in detecting unwanted trackers,” said Erica Olsen, senior director of the National Network to End Domestic Violence’s Safety Net Project.
