Applebee’s Enters the Chicken Sandwich Wars With the Big Cluckin’ Sandwich & $9.99 Really Big Meal Deal

November 12, 2024

Applebee’s has thrown its proverbial hat in the ring in the so-called “chicken sandwich wars,” introducing the Big Cluckin’ Chicken Sandwich and an accompanying $9.99 Really Big Meal Deal to its menu.

A press release revealed that on Tuesday, Nov. 12, the casual dining chain launched its new Really Big Meal Deal, which includes the BIG Classic Bacon Cheeseburger or the new Big Cluckin’ Chicken Sandwich along with Classic Fries and a fountain drink for just $9.99.

For a limited time, Applebee’s Really Big Meal Deal — which offers big taste, big flavor, and big value, according to the chain — is available for both dine-in and takeout via Applebees.com or the mobile app.

“Big in size, flavor and value, our NEW Really Big Meal Deal can’t be beat,” said Joel Yashinsky, chief marketing officer of Applebee’s, in a statement accompanying the press release. “From Classic to Cluckin’, our Really Big Meal Deal offers guests variety, with both a savory hand-crafted burger and NEW hand-breaded chicken sandwich, served with Classic Fries, and a fountain drink for only $9.99. We know our guests are going to love this unbeatable value meal!”

The new Big Cluckin’ Chicken Sandwich consists of a crispy, hand-breaded chicken breast layered on a toasted Brioche baguette with shredded lettuce, pickles, tomato, and mayo. The BIG Classic Bacon Cheeseburger, which is served on a Brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles, consists of an all-beef patty topped with two slices of American cheese and two strips of Applewood-smoked bacon for customers who love the classics. Both meal deal options come with a fountain drink and Classic Fries.

Applebee’s and IHOP Are Launching First Co-Branded Restaurant in the US

Applebee’s and IHOP will open the nation’s first dual-branded restaurant, combining the two concepts under one roof, according to Food on Demand. It is expected to open in Seguin, Texas, a suburb of San Antonio, in the first quarter of 2025. To set up the facility, R. Hakim Group, one of Dine Brands’ franchisees, is collaborating with the parent business of the two brands.

The location will replace an existing IHOP restaurant that is scheduled to close for renovations in November.

One of the reasons for this dual-brand approach is the use of dayparts. Given that IHOP serves breakfast while Applebee’s focuses on lunch and dinner, both establishments stand to benefit from an increase in patronage. Furthermore, Applebee’s and IHOP have different peak hours. IHOP is known for its breakfast and brunch patrons, whereas Applebee’s is known for its lunch, dinner, and late-night eating.
