Are Kroger's tech investments missing the point?

Seeking Alpha's Kevin Mackie was once bullish on Kroger, believing that he was investing in a "best in breed" grocer. But he has since come to see the chain's investments in such technology as infrared customer tracking technology and its 84.51 analytics division as adding unnecessary costs at a time when Walmart and others are laser focused on providing the lowest prices for their shoppers.
