Battle lines being drawn in Apple/EU tax dispute
September 1, 2016
Apple CEO Tim Cook did not mince words in his interview with the Irish Independent as he rallied to build support for his company’s opposition to the EU commission’s ruling to pay $14.5 billion in tax penalties. “No one did anything wrong here and we need to stand together,” he told the publication. “Ireland is being picked on and this is unacceptable. It’s total political crap.” France, meanwhile, has sided with Germany as a supporter of the Brussels decision. The U.S. has expressed support for Apple and made claims that the European Union is making a grab at tax revenue that should rightly stay in the U.S.
