Belk files for Chapter 11 protection

Belk has filed for Chapter 11, and the bankruptcy court has approved the companies reorganization plan that will see the department store's lenders take a larger stake in the company after Sycamore Partners have ceded control. The chain only had $7 million in cash available to it when it filed for bankruptcy.
