Big tech internships are a hard get for low-income students

This frequently eliminates low-income students from consideration. “Assumptions of privilege are baked into the system,” said Ruthe Farmer, the founder and CEO of the Last Mile Education Fund. “It’s biased toward students with more free time to devote to side projects, hackathons and studying for technical interviews — characteristics that conflate privilege with student potential.”
