Buybuy Baby auction being split into two parts
June 29, 2023
Bed Bath & Beyond will only accept bids on Buybuy Baby’s intellectual property, including its domain name, at an auction scheduled for next Wednesday at 10 a.m. A second auction is planned for Thursday, where bidders can make offers to keep the chain’s stores operating. The decision to split the auctions appears to indicate that a deal to acquire the entire business is in doubt.
Buy Buy Baby Closing or No?
CNBC has reported how Bed Bath & Beyond has split the sale and auctioning of its other brand Buy Buy Baby, as a result of bankruptcy.
Overstock has already made the move to purchase the Bed Bath & Beyond brand, but Buy Buy Baby remains up for grabs. CNBC states that, “the failed home goods retailer is planning to host a separate auction, potentially Thursday, where buyers can submit bids to keep Buy Buy Baby and its stores running, said the people, who weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter.”
This means that depending on who the final buyers are, both brand names Bed Bath & Beyond, as well as Buy Buy Baby can still be present in the retail sphere. Additionally, there’s an opportunity for the winning bidder of Buy Buy Baby to keep any remaining stores open for business.
It will be interesting to see how this situation develops and finally concludes.
