California passes bill to protect fast-food workers

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a bill that will create a 10-person council that will set minimum wage and workplace safety standards for fast-food establishments in the state. The law, which was opposed by groups that said it singled out the fast-food industry, may lead to higher prices for consumers or result in companies reducing staff through automation.
