California passes bill to protect garment workers
Los Angeles Times 09/29/2021Gov. Gavin Newson of California has signed SB 62 into law, requiring fashion brands to pay garment workers an hourly wage and hold companies accountable for suppliers who fail to pay and protect the rights of workers. Business groups opposed the legislation. Mr. Newsom said the bill’s provisions will help “protect marginalized low-wage workers, many of whom are women of color and immigrants, ensuring they are paid what they are due and improving workplace conditions.”
