Camp has the experience down for kids, but will they sell stuff too?

Camp now has three of its “family experience stores” in NYC, one in Connecticut and another in Dallas. Parents and kids are enjoying the playground atmosphere where kids can climb, slide, color and explore. Camp merchandises plenty of toys and other products on its walls, offers a cafe for the adults and invites customers to sign up for ticketed craft, entertainment and physical activity sessions. But the company admits that the financial commitment needed to devote so much of the selling floor to experiential activities involves a leap of faith. “I think the jury’s still out on how well they’re going to do,” said Richard Gottlieb, chief executive of Global Toy Experts.
