Chevy Equinox EV: Pricing, Range, and Tax Credits Unveiled

February 12, 2024

In a recent announcement, General Motors (GM) revealed comprehensive details about the much-anticipated Chevy Equinox EV, slated for release later this year. Touted as an accessible option with considerable mileage, this electric vehicle (EV) aims to democratize the experience of electric driving.

The base model, known as the 1LT, boasts a starting price of $34,995, equipped with a single motor and front-wheel drive. With an impressive EPA-estimated range of 319 miles, it surpasses initial price estimates, though still aligning with GM’s commitment to affordability. Moreover, buyers may benefit from a federal EV tax credit of $7,500, effectively reducing the starting price to $27,495. However, eligibility for this tax credit depends on various factors, including household income and tax liability, which GM’s spokesperson, Kellie Van Maele, emphasized.

Moving up the trim ladder, prices ascend across different models. The 2LT FWD starts at $43,295, the 2RS FWD at $44,795, the 3LT FWD at $45,295, and the 3RS FWD at $46,795, all of which include a $1,395 destination charge. Additionally, GM unveiled range specifications for the forthcoming all-wheel-drive version, boasting an EPA-estimated range of 285 miles.

Despite initial delays pushing the Equinox EV’s arrival to 2024 due to market fluctuations and workforce strikes, GM remains confident in its competitive positioning. Against rival entry-level EVs such as the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Nissan Ariya, Volkswagen ID.4, and Volvo EX30, GM asserts the Equinox EV’s superiority. Nevertheless, budget-conscious consumers might find appeal in the used EV market, particularly offerings like the affordably priced Tesla Model 3s available from Hertz.

The Chevy Equinox EV emerges as a promising contender, offering a blend of affordability, extensive range, and potential tax incentives. As GM continues its push toward electrification, the Equinox EV stands as a significant milestone in making electric driving accessible to a broader audience.
