Chick-fil-A Debunks Viral Waffle Fries Rumor
July 31, 2024
Chick-fil-A has debunked a viral TikTok rumor claiming that the popular fast-food chain will be disposing of its popular waffle fries.
According to USA Today, the rumor was started by a TikTok user named @Bri.Daniela1. In a video she posted on Saturday, July 20, she claimed that she was an employee of the popular fast-food restaurant with “inside knowledge” on the chain’s plan to take waffle fries off the menu.
The original video garnered more than 3 million views before she deleted it. She also deleted a follow-up video she posted, explaining that “she had not expected the original video to get so much attention and saying that the ‘news’ she shared was not true.”
The troll video gained more traction when an Instagram post by SnackBetch posted about the “new” Chick-fil-A fries that were straight-cut.
“NEW!! Chick-fil-A French Fries! Do you want to see these go nationwide? I kind of like the idea of having another fry option besides their waffle cut fries,” he wrote in the original caption. Later, the caption was edited to add, “These are available now at the Little Blue Menu location. Apologies for putting “NEW”. At the time of making and posting I was under the impression that they were new — as I hadn’t seen them on the menu before. Big thanks to @littlebluemenu [a location in College Park, Maryland] for clearing that up.”
In a statement to USA Today, Chick-fil-A confirmed that they would not be getting rid of the waffle fries. “Chick-fil-A Guests do not need to worry — our much-loved Waffle Fries are not going anywhere!” the company said.
The Little Blue Menu location also posted a comment on Instagram, making clear that the straight-cut fries were only available at its location. “Don’t worry — Chick-fil-A Waffle Fries aren’t going anywhere! These French Fries are only available at Little Blue Menu in College Park, MD,” the comment said. “That’s the fun of our Little Blue Menu restaurant — Guests can enjoy Chick-fil-A classics alongside our Little Blue Menu exclusives, like French Fries, Sweet Potato Tots and Onion Rings!”
Earlier this month, Chick-fil-A again became the topic of a viral discussion when customers began demanding that other restaurants join the initiative and offer the “tropical” themed menu items after learning that there is just one restaurant in the country offering them.
The tropical menu at the chain’s Truett’s Luau location in Fayetteville, Georgia, includes items like Pineapple Chicken Tacos and Pineapple Nut Milkshakes for dessert.
