Chick-fil-A Is Launching a Streaming Network. Here’s What We Know About It

August 26, 2024

Chick-fil-A has announced that it is entering the streaming network wars with its own proprietary channel. The fast-food giant is working with a number of production houses to create what it’s calling “family-friendly” content. Let’s take a look at what we know about this latest venture.

Chick-fil-A Streaming Network: Keeping With Its Values

Deadline was the first to report that Chick-fil-A was launching its own streaming service. According to the site, the industry leader in chicken has been collaborating with several large production firms, including some of the studios, to develop family-friendly television, especially in the unscripted category. Talks about acquiring and licensing content are also ongoing.

One of the suggested shows is a family-friendly game show from Glassman Media, the production company behind NBC’s “The Wall,” and from Michael Sugar’s Sugar23, the creator of Netflix series like “13 Reasons Why.” A 10-episode order has apparently been given to this new game show.

Unscripted budgets are estimated to be around $400,000 for each half-hour. According to sources who spoke with Deadline, the plan is to debut later this year. Scripted productions and animation are also being discussed. Lead programming guru Brian Gibson, who has worked on shows including the History remake of “Top Gear” and Fox’s adaption of “The X Factor,” has also been in discussions with other producers.

Deadline was told by one source that it was a good move for the reality TV industry, which has been struggling lately, and by another that it was an excellent opportunity, drawing a comparison to branded content. Chick-fil-A declined to comment to the outlet.

Chick-fil-A is the most recent business outside of the entertainment sector to start producing unique content. It joins the likes of Airbnb, which previously produced the MTV documentary “Gay Chorus Deep South,” and Lyft, which has created series including “Lucky Lyft,” a game show presented by Bob the Drag Queen.

Elevated Drive-Thrus

This is just the latest advanced development that Chick-fil-A has undergone. Earlier this month, the fast-food giant announced that it was introducing elevated drive-thrus beginning on Aug. 22 in McDonough, Georgia.

A novel design has been introduced at the Chick-fil-A Jodeco Road facility with “four drive-thru lanes and an elevated kitchen with a unique meal transport system.” As per the fast-food chain, the idea was deliberately crafted to enhance the speed of service and streamline the drive-thru encounter for customers.

A meal can be served to a team member every six seconds thanks to the food conveyor system, and the kitchen is twice as large as a typical Chick-fil-A kitchen. Similar to other Chick-fil-A drive-thru-only facilities, this one lacks a dining area and dine-in options.

“Our Guests lead busy lives, and we’re focused on designing our restaurants to best serve their needs,” said Jonathan Reed, the executive design director for Chick-fil-A, in a statement accompanying the announcement. “With the new Elevated Drive-Thru design, featuring our first four lane drive-thru, we’re aiming to deliver quality food and genuine hospitality in a way that’s uniquely Chick-fil-A, and gives our Guests time back in their day.”

The new idea is the second of Chick-fil-A’s two creative test models this year — the first being the Mobile Pickup concept, which debuted in New York City in March of 2024. With the capacity to handle “two to three times more vehicles” than a typical drive-thru, the four-lane drive-thru gives customers the option of placing their orders through conventional drive-thru lanes or through the Chick-fil-A app for prompt pickup. Brett Lewis, a local owner-operator with a wealth of Chick-fil-A experience, will be in charge of the new eatery concept in Manhattan.
