Chick-fil-A Announces UK Expansion With 5 Locations

October 2, 2024

Chick-fil-A is one of the most popular fast-food chains in the United States, and now, the chicken giant is taking its clucky goodness across the pond.

In a press release announcement, it was revealed that the company plans to open five restaurants across the United Kingdom within the next two years. The restaurant chain will open its first locations outside North America with new branches in Belfast, Leeds, Liverpool, and London. Over the next decade, Chick-fil-A intends to invest a total of more than $100 million in the U.K.

“Serving communities is at the heart of everything we do, and we look forward to bringing Chick-fil-A’s delicious food and signature hospitality to Belfast, Leeds, Liverpool and London, and continuing our long-term investment in the U.K.,” said Anita Costello, chief international officer, in a statement accompanying the press release. “From job creation to supporting local causes, we are excited about the positive impact our first restaurants will have in the communities they serve.”

In honor of the launch of each new restaurant, Chick-fil-A will donate £25,000 to a nearby nonprofit organization as part of its long-standing goal to eradicate hunger. Every location in the United Kingdom will adopt this custom to help the local communities.

Chick-fil-A Is the Latest Restaurant To Expand Into the UK

Chick-fil-A isn’t the only fast-food chain that has expanded into the U.K. Last month, Popeyes announced that it, too, was moving to expand across the pond.

According to QSR, the restaurant opened in Belfast in September and will serve its signature crispy chicken, wings, tenders, Cajun rice, Southern biscuits, and gravy.

In November 2021, Popeyes touched down in the U.K. The company has since established 50 locations around the nation. The eatery also said that the first three customers in line when its Ireland site opened on Sept. 20 would receive a year’s worth of complimentary chicken sandwiches.

“We’re incredibly excited to have landed in Northern Ireland — a region we’ve had our eyes on for some time,” Tom Crowley, CEO at Popeyes U.K., said in a statement. “The Belfast opening represents the start of our commitment to the island of Ireland — it’s only the beginning of our plans.”
