China's JD.com may one-up Amazon Go

While Amazon has played up the PR value of its nascent Go automated convenience store concept, JD.com, the second largest e-commerce retailer in China, is planning to roll out hundreds of unmanned stores that it claims will outmatch Amazon in terms of technical sophistication. Much like Amazon Go, the JD.com concept makes use of technology to track customers' movements and which products they select, but by using facial recognition tech the company will purportedly also learn those shoppers' preferences over time in order to make personalized offers.
