Christmas Day: The Stores That Are Open for Last-Minute Shopping

Are there any stores open on Christmas Day? That’s the question for shoppers who need that last-minute gift or recipe item on Dec. 25. But as this is a major holiday, shoppers may not find all of their favorite stores open.

In recent years, stores have become more familiar with granting workers the day off for holidays. In addition to Christmas Day and Christmas Eve, retailers also commonly shut down on Thanksgiving Day.

It’s important to note that store hours will vary per location. So before you run out to grab that needed item, check your store’s local hours of operation first. However, if you need a quick stocking stuffer or a last-minute ingredient, here are the retailers remaining open on Christmas Day. Some independently owned stores may alter their hours for the holiday, so always call ahead.

7-Eleven locations will be open for their typical 24 hours. Circle K will remain open for 24 hours as normal, but some sites could operate on reduced hours. CVS will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Call ahead for pharmacy hours.

Most Cumberland Farms stores will open from 7 a.m. to midnight on Christmas Day. Rite Aid remains open but with varying hours of operation, and not all pharmacies will be available. Safeway stores are on the list, but depending on location, hours may vary, as do Sheetz stores.

Speedway and Wawa are also open for their regular hours for a quick bite, gas, or beverages. For pharmacy needs, Walgreens is open, but store hours vary by location. Stores that regularly operate 24/7 should be open on Christmas, and most other locations will have reduced hours. Call ahead for pharmacy hours.

As for grocery stores, some will remain open but with limited hours, depending on their location. The stores that will service customers on Christmas Day are Acme, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Giant Food Stores. However, the biggest retailer of all, Walmart, will remain closed on Christmas Day reports The Kitchn.

Stores local to customers may also have altered holiday hours. It is best to check ahead for store hours before finding a favorite retailer closed.

Denny’s, Starbucks, and Dunkin’ are among the restaurants that have locations open on the holiday. However, there could be limited hours so employees can spend part of Christmas Day with their families.
