Coca-Cola Launches Sprite + Tea After Viral TikTok Trend
May 19, 2025
For a limited time, Sprite drinkers’ tastebuds can experience something new — Sprite + Tea. Available now, Coca-Cola’s new Sprite drink will be in U.S. and Canadian stores until October.
Sprite Turns TikTok Trend Into Its Newest Flavor Innovation: Sprite + Tea
After extensive brainstorming, a team of intern researchers came up with a satisfying flavor, color, and texture for Sprite + Tea. However, the original idea for the flavor combination started with social media. In 2023, Sprite fans started steeping tea bags in the soda and showing off the concoction on TikTok.
“We’re always listening to our consumers, but this particular phenomenon motivated us to explore how we could offer our own refreshing take on tea,” said Sprite North America’s brand director, Kate Schaufelberger, in a press release. “Sprite fans love variety, not just in flavor but in the ways we bring refreshment to life through unique multisensorial experiences that stay true to the essence of the brand.”

A.P. Chaney, creative director for Sparkling Flavors North America, noted how another Sprite hybrid beverage was inspired by social media. Sprite Lymonade was created in 2019 after fans combined lemonade and Sprite.
Another Sprite Flavor Innovation
Sprite + Tea is not the brand’s first flavor innovation. In spring 2024, Coca-Cola launched Sprite Chill. The soda was a combination of the signature lemon-lime with cherry-lime. According to the press release, “cooling agents” were added to the beverage to boost the flavor experience.
“With Sprite Chill, we’re doubling down on these signature intrinsics while continuing our legacy of strategic flavor innovation and quenching fans’ thirst for variety and the exclusive badge value associated with trying and sharing limited-time-only beverages and experiences,” said Schaufelberger at the time.
Coca-Cola has also experimented with flavor additions to its flagship soda. After discontinuing Coca-Cola Spiced late last year, the company introduced Orange Cream in February. So far, the citrus-cream Coke soda is still available.
According to a report from Adweek, Sprite is the No. 3 carbonated soft drink by volume in the U.S., with only Coca-Cola and Dr Pepper ranking higher. Owning roughly 8.03% of the soft drink market, Sprite even surpassed Coke’s longtime rival Pepsi, which controls 7.97%.
Sprite + Tea is available in both original and zero-sugar varieties. The limited-time drink is also free of caffeine.
