Cooking Oil Recall Issued Due to Packaging Issue

April 23, 2024

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a nationwide recall of Primal Kitchen Avocado Oil, affecting more than 2,000 cases of cooking oil. The recall was initiated due to a packaging issue involving the potential breakage of the glass containers, posing a safety risk to consumers.

Primal Kitchen recalled 2,060 cases of its Avocado Oil distributed across the eastern United States, California, and online platforms nationwide. The affected product comes in 750-milliliter bottles with a UPC of 8-5523200719-4 for individual packages and a UPC of 108552320071910000 for cases. The “Best When Used By” dates for the recalled products range from Aug. 19, 2025, to Aug. 21, 2025. No other sizes, formats, or batches of Primal Kitchen Avocado Oil are affected by this recall.

While there have been no reported injuries or illnesses associated with the recalled products, consumers are advised to dispose of the affected items immediately. Primal Kitchen encourages consumers to contact them for further guidance on how to proceed with the recalled products.

This voluntary recall comes after Primal Kitchen discovered the packaging issue during routine monitoring of its warehouse. The company noticed that avocado oil had leaked from the containers in shipping, prompting them to take immediate action to ensure consumer safety.

Food recalls are not uncommon and can stem from various issues, including bacterial contamination, undeclared allergens, foreign materials in products, or labeling errors. In this instance, the recall was initiated as a precautionary measure to address the identified packaging issue and mitigate potential risks to consumers.

Primal Kitchen has emphasized its commitment to upholding the highest safety and quality standards for its products. The company is working diligently to rectify the situation and prevent similar issues from occurring in the future.

Consumers who have purchased Primal Kitchen Avocado Oil within the specified date range and UPCs should check their product and follow the recall instructions provided by the company. Taking prompt action is essential to ensure safety and avoid potential hazards in the kitchen.

Stay informed about food safety alerts and recalls to protect yourself and your family from potential health risks. Always read product labels carefully, check for recalls regularly, and take necessary precautions when consuming food products. Your safety is paramount, and being proactive in checking for recalls and following guidelines can help prevent potential health issues related to food consumption.
