Costco Officially Extends Gas Hours
March 18, 2025
Costco has announced that it is extending its gas hours, giving busy customers more time to get fuel for their vehicles.
FOX Business reports that Costco’s CEO, Ron Vachris, made the announcement during the company’s earnings call on March 6. According to Vachris, the popular warehouse club “extended our gas station hours in North America during the quarter to make filling up at Costco more convenient for our members.”
He continued: “Generally, our stations are now staying open an hour later than they did previously with some opening earlier as well.”
Vachris confirmed what was originally reported on social media back in February.
However, Costco also noted that hours would vary based on location. California and Hawaii customers, for example, will have different hours than locations in other states. Customers are encouraged to check their nearest warehouse store for details.
“We’ve been pleased so far with the member reaction and we are seeing an improvement in overall usage of the gas stations,” Costco CFO Gary Millerchip said of the extended hours. “It’s early days, of course, but so far, we’ve been pleased by the member response.”
Despite a Projected Positive Outlook, Costco Q2 2025 Missed The Mark
The warehouse club initially projected a strong Q2 2025 outlook. However, the actual earnings missed the mark, causing stock prices to drop.
According to LSEG analysis, the red-and-blue brand generated earnings per share of $4.02, compared to an estimated $4.11. Meanwhile, quarterly revenue rose 9% to $63.72 billion, exceeding analyst expectations of $63.13 billion. And, as Investor’s Business Daily pointed out, comparable store sales rose by 6.8%, slightly exceeding estimates of a 6.4% increase.
Despite the silver lining linked to the rather sluggish earnings announcement, which was presumably muted by the likelihood of continuing tariffs, Costco’s stock price fell.
The company shares fell by 7.67% as of 1 p.m. ET on March 7, after losing 1% of their value during extended trading on March 6 following the report’s release.
Due to Donald Trump’s recent trade policy, Vachris addressed many shareholder and stakeholder concerns about the possibility of tariffs. The CEO mentioned that Costco’s unique “treasure hunt” shop layouts and conception allow the warehouse club to be more flexible with its item mix, implying that certain tariff-affected products can be swapped out for others.
“With our flexibility, there are not many items we can’t find something else to replace, or something else to bring in,” Vachris said.
