Dairy Queen’s Free Cone Day Is Back — And This Year, You Can Win Free Ice Cream for a Year
March 4, 2025
Dairy Queen has run the popular Free Cone Day promotion for years, and now, it’s back for a limited time. This year, Free Cone Day participants can win free ice cream for a year. Let’s take a look at the details.
Dairy Queen Is Giving Away Tons of Freebies
According to PEOPLE, the ice cream shop’s unofficial celebration returns on March 20, the first day of spring.
Fans can still get a free small vanilla soft serve ice cream in a cone on Free Cone Day, as they have in past years. There is a maximum of one complimentary soft serve per guest, but no purchase is required.
However, some lucky ice cream lovers will get a supersized Free Cone Day. Fans who join DQ Rewards now through March 19 will be entered to win a year’s worth of free cones.
But that’s not the only deal that Dairy Queen has up for grabs.
DQ is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a green-tinged treat, the Mint Oreo Blizzard, which combines vanilla soft serve, Oreo pieces, and a “cool mint topping.” The final product has a green hue, similar to McDonald’s Shamrock Shake and Oreo Shamrock McFlurry, per a press release shared with the outlet.
And that’s still not all. Dairy Queen has also launched a new $7 meal deal that includes an original cheeseburger or chicken strips, full-size regular fries, a drink, and a sundae made from the chain’s famous soft serve. Customers can also upgrade to a small blizzard for an extra $2.
‘Most Requested’ Ice Cream Flavor
Dairy Queen has its fair share of discounts and surprises in store for its customers, including the re-launch of its “most requested” Blizzard ice cream flavor.
The famed dessert chain invited customers to vote on social media to choose which Blizzard flavor will be available on menus later this year. Georgia Mud Fudge, Cappuccino Heath, and S’mores were the three most popular choices, with S’mores Blizzards coming out on top and returning to menus in April 2025.
Since its debut in 2013, the S’mores Blizzard has become a popular treat. Troy Bader, the CEO of Dairy Queen, even named it his personal favorite. Fans will soon be able to enjoy the chocolatey, creamy, campfire-inspired delight again, as it is expected to be re-released as part of Dairy Queen’s summer lineup.
Bringing back classic fan favorites isn’t the only way Dairy Queen is trying to entice new customers. Last March, the popular fast-food restaurant provided freebies to its fans for Free Cone Day by giving out small vanilla cones across the United States.
This promotion was available all day on March 19 at participating locations, and each person was limited to one cone, though it did not include shipping or mobile orders. DQ Rewards members also received double points for any purchases they made that day.
“Nothing says warmer weather is around the corner quite like Free Cone Day,” said Maria Hokanson, executive vice president of marketing, at the time. “We’re inviting fans everywhere to grab their friends and families and get their ‘Treat Szn’ started with something sweet — on us.”
Last year, fans were looking forward to the reappearance of their favorite cherry-dipped cones. Cherry supply has been altered by the seasons in previous years, with the fruit typically returning during the warmer months. Dairy Queen has experimented with a variety of flavors for its dipped soft-serve cones, including Dreamsicle, Fruity Blast, and even pumpkin. Many fans, however, have a soft spot for cherry-dipped cones and eagerly await their return to the menu.
