Delta Announces Partnership With Uber, Google During AI-Heavy CES Keynote

January 9, 2025

Frequent fliers and airline industry experts alike were dazzled by the most recent Delta keynote delivered during this year’s CES, according to Engadget.

Held within the confines of the famous Sphere in Las Vegas, Delta put on a show, including indoor fireworks, appearances from high-profile figures like Tom Brady and Viola Davis, an immersive multi-sensory media experience that featured a simulated airliner landing, and a performance by rock star Lenny Kravitz.

Beyond the glitz and glamor, however, there were a few important announcements added to the mix. As Inc. reported, the airline will be partnering with Uber, replacing Lyft as its official rideshare option, as well as Google-owned YouTube for in-flight entertainment options.

Uber’s partnership with Delta goes a little bit deeper, according to Restaurant Business. SkyMiles members who spend with Uber or Uber Eats will be offered reward miles if they link their cards.

Delta To Offer Ad-Free YouTube Premium to SkyMiles Members as Part of Expanded In-Flight Entertainment Suite

In a recent press release, the airline indicated that it would be expanding its in-flight entertainment system to include YouTube Premium, as well as several other perks as part of its Delta Sync experience served to SkyMiles members.

“Technology has the power to transform travel and create moments for our customers to enjoy the journey as much as the destination,” said CEO Ed Bastian. “Whether through fast, free Wi-Fi, our industry-leading seatback screens or any of the other personalized channels in Delta’s digital ecosystem, we’re committed to creating a seamless and enriching experience for our SkyMiles Members.”

Speaking of the seatback screens (or pull-out screens for those in business class), those are also getting an upgrade. Delta announced that it would be installing 4K HDR QLED screens on its aircraft, along with Bluetooth capabilities for pairing earbuds or headphones.

Further, a 96-terabyte storage system is planned to allow for a much wider selection of streaming options on board.

Delta Concierge Brings AI to the Flying Experience

As part of the keynote, the airline also elaborated on plans to implement its AI assistant, Delta Concierge, to its Fly Delta app.

“Delta Concierge will serve as a thread across your experience,” said Bastian. “[It will] serve as an AI-powered personal assistant that combines the context of who our customers are and how they like to travel, with the deep knowledge and insights we’ve built as the world’s most reliable airline.”

According to the company, per Inc., the AI assistant will apprise travelers of any flight changes, the potential expiration of their passport, the safest route to the airport, directions to their respective gates, and other features. Inc. suggested that the AI assistant could be launched later in 2025, with further developments being added in future years.
