Amazon Sells Sporting Goods

By George Anderson

A Bloomberg News report says Amazon.com has signed up 95 retailers to offer an extensive selection of sporting goods online. Among those involved in the venture are Foot Locker,
Sports “R” Us (a new unit of Toys “R” Us) and Sportsline.com.

As with similar ventures it has made in other categories, Amazon.com will handle inventory, shipping and customer service for the sporting goods shop.

Amazon is offering a certificate of $10 for shoppers spending at least $50 in its sporting-goods shop.

One of the biggest impediments to selling sporting goods and fitness equipment online has been the cost of shipping product. It will be interesting to see
if Amazon has any success selling larger items that are more expensive to ship.
