Architects, Experts Say Proper Design Propels Sales

Architects and national experts agree that stores that are properly designed and engineered can enhance the customer’s buying mood, reports the Business Journal of Kansas City. Easy store navigation, circular floor layouts, punctuated lighting, affable colors and appropriate display fixtures have a positive effect on shoppers.

“When shoppers enter a store, they step inside, size it up and get oriented. If they like what they see, it puts them in the buying mood,” says Paco Underhill, a retail market research specialist and author.

Comment: Two questions:

  1. Are retailers doing a good job of communicating that
they understand customers’ needs through store design?

  2. Which retailers (all classes) are doing the best (or
    worst) job in this area?
