Coke Is It In Euro Music Downloads

By George Anderson

Coke MusicA report by the BBC says Coca-Cola’s music download site, MyCokeMusic.com, is the largest
for-pay service in Europe with consumers buying 10,000 songs a week.

An unidentified spokesperson for the company told the BBC, “The figures from Mycokemusic.com have exceeded our expectations and we are delighted that consumers have adopted legal downloading in such great numbers and with a real enthusiasm.”

Moderator’s Comment: Do the moves by Coca-Cola, Pepsi with Apple Computer and Starbucks
into the downloadable music suggest a fundamental shift in the music retailing business?

Recent reports that the only thing holding back the Pepsi’s iTunes promotion has been the bottlers. Retailers and consumers were complaining about not being
able to purchase the bottles with the promotional lids.
