McDonald's Premium Salads have been well received by consumers but the fast food chain has experienced an unexpected and unwelcome boost in demand because of fake coupons being distributed over the Internet offering a free salad.
The new salads featuring Newman's Own dressings helped sales at McDonald's open at least 13 months rise seven percent in June, according to Bloomberg News.
McDonald's spokesperson Julie Pottebaum said the chain's restaurants will not accept the fake coupon. The company has posted a copy of it on its Web site to alert consumers.
"We would never want our customers to be inconvenienced, so we wanted to take care of it right now," Ms. Pottebaum said.
Moderator's Comment: What should McDonald's do about the fake coupons being circulated online for its Premium Salads?
Customers going to a McDonald's with a Free Premium Salad coupon are bound to be disappointed. What better opportunity to offer the customer something besides a "No" so they can feel good about their McDonald's experience.[George Anderson - Moderator]
