French Boycott Movement Grows

By George Anderson

According to a CNN/USA TODAY/Gallup poll, 54 percent of Americans believe the French stance on Iraq has amounted to France “stabbing the U.S. in the back.”

Anti-French sentiment has not translated into lower sales of that country’s exports to the US, yet. High profile categories such as wine have seen sales declines, although this began before the current difficulties between the nations.

Individual retailers and restaurants have made news recently for removing French products from store shelves and menus.

backlash against all things French last?

We agree with Phil Lempert (www.supermarketguru.com).
If there are many US military or civilian casualties resulting from the war
with Iraq, anti-French sentiment will last for years.
