Trader Joe’s Goes to the Mall
By George Anderson
The Philadelphia Business Journal reports that by the end of 2003, Trader Joe’s will become the sole tenant of a new building being constructed at the Suburban Square Mall in Ardmore, Pa.
The mall, owned by Amerishop Real Estate Services in Dallas, Tx., bills itself
as “the original lifestyle center”. Suburban Square currently includes Ann Taylor,
Banana Republic, Body Shop, Coach, Chico’s, Gap, Restoration Hardware, Starbucks
and Williams-Sonoma among its tenants.
Moderator’s Comment: How will Trader Joe’s do in a
mall setting?
Many consumers travel over an hour simply to shop at the
nearest Trader Joe’s. Amerishop Real Estate has done something very positive
for the other retail tenants of the Suburban Square Mall.
