Disney+ & Apple Collaborate To Bring Famous 3D Movies to Home Screens

January 17, 2024

Apple and Disney will be collaborating to bring popular movies from Disney+ in 3D to home screens, reports TechRadar.

In a press release, Disney announced that the leading streaming service provider Disney+ will be supported on Apple’s visionary new headset starting on Feb. 2. A range of movies on the Disney+ platform will be ready to stream in 3D by consumers with the Vision Pro headset. This will mark the first time 3D movies will be brought to the home environment.

In the announcement, Disney CEO Bob Iger said, “At Disney, we’re constantly searching for new ways to entertain, inform, and inspire by combining exceptional creativity with groundbreaking technology to create truly remarkable experiences.”

He added, “Apple Vision Pro is a revolutionary platform that will bring our fans closer to the characters and stories they love while immersing them more deeply in all that Disney has to offer. We’re proud to once again be partnering with Apple to bring extraordinary new Disney experiences to people around the world.”

There is no clear indication from Disney yet as to how many films will be available to view on the platform in 3D, but it has claimed that viewers “will be able to watch dozens of popular movies” using the Vision Pro.

Included in the 3D lineup are “Avatar: The Way of the Water,” the famous Marvel movie “Avengers: Endgame,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Pixar’s “Elemental,” and “Encanto.” Another positive is that Disney+ subscribers will not have to pay an extra fee to access any of the above movies in 3D.

Subscribers of Disney+ who have bought movies through the Apple TV app that includes a 3D option will also be able to access the above movies, amongst others. In addition, the launch of this partnership between Apple and Disney will include new immersive content to stream, such as “Alicia Keys: Rehearsal Room,” the athletic program “Adventure,” the animal-themed “Wild Life,” and more, according to ITM.

According to Apple’s own press release, 150 movies will be supported in 3D by Apple Vision Pro from various studios, and most of the content is ready to rent or purchase through the Apple TV app.
