Dutch Retailer Buys Rival to Fend Off Staples

The Dutch office supplies retailer, Corporate Express, will pay about $2.7 billion in cash and shares to acquire its French rival Lyreco. The company took the action as it attempts to fend off a hostile takeover bid by Staples.
